Stephen Rowe is a Netherlands-based English artist. He works across various media, including painting, ink, collage, photography and sculpture. His art is characterised by a clear, abstract visual language featuring geometric and spatial compositions that tend towards the organic.

“Embracing Intuition”

Stephen is also passionate about architecture and this informs his work in a multitude of ways. Coincidence and embracing intuition play a central role in the creative process of reduction and contribute to his minimalist aesthetic.

“Taking the risk to free myself”

Before persuing a full-time career as artist, Stephen worked as a branding and marketing specialist for 20 years, based in Barcelona. Then, running towards his dream, Stephen took the risk to free himself from everything to devote himself entirely to art.

“I want to do what moves me deeply”

Stephen says: “I want to do what moves me deeply, does me good and corresponds to my own sense of being. After doing the hard part of committing to my art fully, everything else feels easy. There is no fear that a project or piece won’t work out, because what sustains me is not success but creation”.

Fluent in English, Spanish and Dutch languages, Stephen lives in The Netherlands with his Catalan wife, Mireia.
